I recently discovered that someone has purchased my game, Basket Goal - HTML5 Mobile (Construct 3) (link to my game), and is now reselling it on CodeCanyon under the name Hoop Kings (link to the resold game).
It’s clear that they’ve only made minor graphical changes while keeping the core of my original game intact. This kind of action violates the CodeCanyon licensing and copyright policies, as it involves reselling someone else’s work without significant modifications or proper authorization.
I’m reaching out here to seek advice on how to handle this situation and to inform other authors about this issue. I’ve already contacted Envato support to report this violation, but I’d appreciate any guidance or similar experiences from fellow developers on this forum.
Thank you for your attention, and I hope we can work together to maintain a fair and ethical marketplace for everyone.
Best regards
It’s disappointing to hear about such practices. Here’s what I recommend:
- Follow Up with Author Support: Since you’ve already contacted Envato Support, make sure to follow up regularly for updates. Provide them with as much evidence as possible, including screenshots, source files, and a detailed comparison between your game and the resold version.
- Submit a DMCA Takedown Notice: If you haven’t already, prepare and submit a formal DMCA Takedown Notice. This step is essential because Envato typically takes action only after receiving such a document. Make sure your claim is clear, with side-by-side comparisons to highlight the copied elements.
- Spread Awareness: While waiting for Envato’s action, it’s good to inform other authors (as you’ve done here) so they can be vigilant about similar issues. This helps maintain a stronger, fairer community.
Stay persistent and patient, as these cases can take some time to resolve. Wishing you the best in protecting your hard work and ensuring fairness in the marketplace!
Contact Envato support and report the issue. They will probably block the new author page and remove the item.
