Truly responsive, mobile-friendly lightbox scripts

#1

fancyBox 2 is out and I was happy to see that it is truly responsive. I tested it on iOS, Android and Opera Mobile it and works very nicely. Does anybody know of other good responsive lightbox scripts or is this still new territory? I notice a lot of very good responsive themes using lightboxes that are not very mobile friendly. I recently hacked prettyPhoto to make it behave on mobile devices but of course hack jobs are not the ideal solution.

The problem with fancyBox 2 is that the developer license ($89) does not allow for distribution within commercial themes, templates, etc. I love how Isotope is licensed to allow for redistribution in projects and would be thrilled to see fancyBox 2 do something similar. So my question is, how much would you be willing to pay for a license to include a truly responsive and mobile-friendly lightbox in your templates and themes?

PS. fancyBox 2 is hosted separately from the original fancyBox: http://fancyapps.com/fancybox/

Thanks but there does not seem to be an extended license option for that one so it’s not helpful to theme and template developers. It’d be great if it was offered with an extended license though.

Hi dudes,

That’s our responsive lightbox item, and like the rest of our stuff on CC, it will never be available with an extended licence while those ridiculous prices (5x) for extended licences remain on CC. That is a no brainer, even if the terms of the extended licences have recently changed.

Not an Envato item, but I used: http://finegoodsmarket.com/view/

Works a treat, and the extended licence isn’t expensive.

View.js is the real deal!

I’ve recently tested these.

Zurb’s Reveal http://www.zurb.com/playground/reveal-modal-plugin
Which is part of Foundation also: http://foundation.zurb.com/docs/reveal.php

Colorbox http://www.jacklmoore.com/colorbox
Which needs a rewrite, but ultimately fit my needs better.

Really instructive post  Thanks

Came across this one : http://ryrych.github.com/rlightbox2/

It’s not that bad and can be easily customized

If someone was looking for lightbox like me and found this thread, check out this one released on Smashingmag - http://coding.smashingmagazine.com/2013/05/02/truly-responsive-lightbox/

I have this one on my radar, but I didn’t have a chance to implement it yet:

btw, it's made by a fellow codecanyon author Semenov

Great stuff. Magnific Popup is just magnificent plugin! Finally I can ditch that damned fancybox.

#14

Yeah, that magnific popup is sooo flexible, just everything you need can be coded through it’s API.

Did anyone already tried this one http://brutaldesign.github.io/swipebox/ ?

FooBox is the best one I’ve ever seen.

I tried foobox once, and I can clearly say that it’s better not to use any lightbox at all then use foobox, it blocks zooming and reduces image on mobile leaving huge gaps, so there is no any way to just view the image properly. What’s the point of it?

It’s just a clone of photoswipe.

Photoswipe does not work in WebApp mode, this does! It uses a different system of opening images.
