Why I wuld want to use WordPress / WP engine? I don’t get it…
There’s an official explanation about it at, basically, it’s about money.
But I’m more interested in to know why the sales stopped in the last 10-14 days as well as the traffic is low at the marketplace instead.

WP demanding 8% from revenue as trademark fees ($32m) is totally un-called for. This is sort of bullying should not be accepted at any cost. The language used by Matt on the notice is also reflects it. One should not forget WordPress itself was forked from b2/cafelog & WooCommerce was forked from JigoShop.

Goof advertisement and s… load of money invested in it 
It make sense for me what WordPress did, it’s like hey you are using our servers recourse, our code, our trademarks and on top of that you are hacking our code for your need, why would i then give you access to our servers ?
From WordPress view i can imagine that getting over 1.5 million request for their plugins/themes from just WP Engine might be costly.
I think WP Engine can get out of it if they decided to pay and they have to pay really a lot.
BTW the most selling theme here is using WP Engine
