Building a site for a project and facility management business where users can sign up (and pay), submit service request tickets and track their progress, upload photos etc. Something really useable is ideal because the business makes money when support requests are lodged so any difficulty in using the system means less service requests and less money.

Any help/insights would be much appreciated

I am afraid for that there is no solution out of box. That will need some custom code. Do you have some example what you want to build?
