My theme was soft rejected with the following message.
“Sorry to say, but theme is not yet ready to be included in WordPress category. Design needs lots of improvements and because of that I am unable to provide any specific details. Please improve your theme and feel free to resubmit once ready.”
Reading the comment from the reviewer at first I thought it was hard rejected myself. Inside the admin its clearly “soft rejected” and still available to be resubmitted. My aim of the theme was to be the first simple showcase of the framework and plugins I’ve developed without trying to overcomplicate things.
I think you should focus on typography - give more free space to paragraphs using line-height, better style quotes, pay more attention to post headings, etc.
Some images are really low-resolution i think you should replace them.
Work on overall spaces and elements sizing, like logo - doesn’t it seem large to you?
Search form has a very poor design…
Icons in post meta are too close to text, give them more space.
Get rid of load more animation - it’s not good at all.
Thank you for the feedback MajorThemes. Having a fresh perspective of where I’m going wrong is extremely helpful. I actually was quite fond of my load more animation when I made it originally but you are right it doesn’t work in with what I’ve done with the rest of the theme. Lots of things for me to work on!
It was a soft reject. There is a lot hidden in my theme you cannot see on the surface. There are 250+ customisation options built into the framework. A custom shortcode set with about 400 options with them and a brand new drag and drop Visual Editor to support it. While the first theme I’m attempting to release with it is quite simple there is actually 2 years development work behind the back end.
My Saga continues with my next soft rejection:
“Soft Rejected
Your item does not provide the necessary design quality for this category. As higher quality items become available in the marketplace, approval requirements will increase to maintain appropriate marketplace quality. While I’d be able to provide feedback as to how to get this approved, I can only do after it has crossed a certain threshold, quality wise. I’m sorry to say this isn’t there yet.”
MajorThemes gave me a tonne of great feedback which has helped me move a lot of further forward and I would greatly appreciate anyone else pointing out where I’m going wrong.
