Shopify Gift Cards

I’ve recently had to set up some gift cards on a Shopify store and I was very suprised to see if you make a sale on a gift card, the value of the card is the one on sale.
So if you have a product that values $200 and you decide that you make a sale on that product it becomes $150 but the actual value of the product doesn’t change right? The product’s value is still $200 but the customer can buy it now for $150, that is the logic of sales… you get greater value for a smaller price.
On Gift Cards if you have one that normally is $200 and on sale is $150, when the customer uses it he gets $150 worth of credit instead of $200. That doesn’t make any sense to me… where’s the offer in that?
