Hello everyone ,
First Have a simple question to a full time AJ authors. What is your schedule? I mean how much hours you work per week and per day? Do you have weekends?
Second Music is my passion, but starting to compose everyday I feel I exhaust myself. Also after working whole day I can’t listen any music, even can’t watch movie… I also noticed that I do not enjoy the process as much as I used to, and it turns into a routine. The whole point was to do what you like and make money with it. Or is it such period?? I think it’s time for a psychologist Please help me friends and colleagues. Did such a wave cover you?
I guess when it starts feeling like a routine or you dont enjoy the process of creating music it is time to either try something new (dive into another genre, try using an instrument you never used before etc…) or just take a break for a few days and clear your mind. See something different than your DAW to get some rest and also some inspiration, at least for me this worked out most of the time. Our brains will get tired when they stay on one task for too long.
I hope this can help you out a bit, wish you all the best!
Thanks a lot for answer and good advices and for support
Wish you all the best too)
I usually take a break for 2-3 days.
I spend more time in nature.
You burned out.Is a common issue in creative process. It manifests in many ways but as you said, you developed apathy and excessive fatique. I strongly suggest you to take a break. Not 2-3 hours.3 or 4 days.If you can afford it take a week or two.Otherways it will do more harm. You will dislike anything you create and you will reject good ideas ( even they are good ) . Take care.
Me too! I mean nature is the only salvation. I live in a small village and constantly walk in the forest, near the river, in the mountains…
I think nature is the best medicine for a musician!
You take 2-3 days off per week? And how much hours you work per day?
You have hit the mark! As if you know me. I’m burned out
Dangerous state of the brain. Hope it is not for long
Thanks for your support friend.
Divide your work day in two parts.First part ( i prefer in the morning since i am not a night owl) is for creative part. I write as many ideas as i can.Of course, many will end up in the archive or in the bin, but the good ones will shine. Take a break at the mid day and the rest of the day is for polishing one track.Do not overdo it. If you struggle with it, f#$% it ! Go to next one. In the end , none of us will buy a ferrari with the AJ income. Is just money. Your health is more important.Stay safe.
You make me smile with calm gentle smile, when heart feels good.
Thanks
The feeling that I am so understood by someone is very much needed.
I work early in the morning for 3-4 hours.
Then be sure to go to a park or forest, fresh air and a complete distraction from music.
In the evening I check for a fresh mind what I did in the morning.
It usually takes 1-2 hours to fix and mix.
Everything.
I try not to sit at the computer anymore.
The monitor has a profound effect on fatigue.
Thanks for sharing your work schedule day and giving a brilliant advice.
This is one of my problems, I try to do everything in one sitting.
I will definitely try this way of dividing working time
Sometimes it is useful to reschedule the mixing of a song for 2-3 days.
You will see all your mistakes.
But I don’t advise you to devote a lot of time to one piece - you can go far from the idea and (as a rule) completely ruin the track)))
And most importantly:
NEVER don’t despair.
NEVER don’t get discouraged.
Believe in yourself !
Good lucky !
Thank you thank you thank you
Honestly, it became easier. When you’re alone and it’s hard to explain your despair and its causes to your family. They don’t understand.
And here on the forum I was instantly understood, embraced, advised, encouraged…
When I lag inspiration or motivation I sometimes watch tutorials, read music magazines or sometimes watch interviews with artists etc. Or I check out some new instruments/plug-ins. Generally learning new stuff is the best motivation.
And for the workflow I guess there is no blueprint, you will have to find the perfect individual routine for yourself. Think of this as a gift because you have ultimate freedom to work whatever and whenever you want.
Thanks, great advice! In our business we need to constantly improve our skills.
Yep, you are right for 100%!!! That’s why we all are here, on AJ
