Currently, the only way to solve the problem is to not accept PayPal, Skrill or credit cards as payment methods. It’s part of the deal of using those payment providers that chargebacks/reversal are a thing… and can and will happen.
I’d rather live with reversals… than not have any reversals but not accept three of the most used online payment methods.
Then we will need envato to accept cash payment! ![]()
You’re right, actually the chargeback was used for safety reason if some suspicious transaction happened from our credit card. But in this case it’s misused by some people, nothing we can do at the moment. ![]()
In that case, I can not understand one thing. For example, if PayPal has forbidden a payment because the card was in the hands of scammers, etc. Where does the money come from on the author’s balance sheet, and then are deducted?
Paypal send the payment to Envato and then Envato allocate the money to your account… when there’s a chargeback, Paypal take the money back from Envato, so Envato take the money back from your account.
Everything is clear
The transaction was disputed by the customer with their payment issuer because they feel the did not receive what they paid for in some way.
We provide a “preview”. How the customer may feel that the track he doesn’t like getting a Wav? I understand that this is based on the law, but why “Envato” will not submit the request for exemption of the market from this obligation on the basis that we provide a “preview” it’s not a smartphone which will need some time to understand convenient it is or not.
That might apply to a chargeback under a reason like “goods not as described”, and I’m sure Envato do dispute those when they crop up… but I’m pretty sure the majority if instances will be stolen credit cards.
There’s nothing anybody can do in those instances.
Maybe the buyer was drunk

Unfortunately there is nothing Envato can do about sales reversals.
I get a lot too, some from customers who have purchased almost a year ago.
Consider these sales never happen. Let me explain the steps.
Case 1
- False Credit Card purchases your item.
- Envato System Registers the Purchase ( instantly )
- Envato System Detects fake credit card ( instantly )
- Buyer that used false credit card gets disabled ( instantly )
- Buyer that used false credit card has no access to item.
- Envato Processes Sale Reversals and removes them from the statement & credit.
Case 2
Buyer goes to PayPal, Swift, Bank, Payoneer and gets their money back jumping over the Envato Refund System. Buyer gets disabled, licenses revoked.
So basically, that purchase never existed. The buyer or scammer that tried to game the payment system is banned before he got the item, the processing of Sale Reversals, these things being fraud, get processed slower. This is why you see Sales happen instantly, but Sale Reversals happen slower. Unfortunately, there is no protection against these things. These things happen internationally, to multi-billion dollar companies. Envato has an awesome system in place though! Keeps them from getting the file.
Hey @TimCat, I renamed your thread and added [Sale Reversals] in front of it. I’m hoping to keep this thread the main one for these sorts of incidents. Staff are usually browsing the forums, so having more authors post in the same place is a great idea to keep these threads in one place. Cheers! ![]()
This month(February) I got 13 sale reversals
most of them from old sales on the last year
I hope the next coming two days not to get more.
Now, 14 sale reversals
Envato level of security for payment is really bad how comes they Allow reversal ?? i had like 20 reversal until now , feeling not worth anymore to sell in here
Envato can’t do anything about it, it’s the part of doing business online in that anyone can put a reversal on their card at any point, it goes over Envato and Paypal’s head, it comes right from the card issuer.
Envato should add Verified by Visa when paying by card
I believe it wouldn’t be possible due to the worldwide nature of Envato, hence why only the US actually has a credit card merchant, the rest of the world has to use Paypal / Payoneer etc which don’t incorporate the visa 3D secure / verified by visa.
It would be nice but even companies such as Amazon don’t do it so we are a long way off that being made global in my opinion.
