Rebranding Free Plugin... Allowed?

Hi everyone,

So here is the thing. I love a page builder plugin, which is free and open source, licensed under gpl 3. I want to take core features from it, extend it and remove things I don’t like. Then I want to use this modified plugin in my themes for themeforest. Is this something illegal to do? Please advice me.

Maybe you could get in touch with that builders creator? If there’s any contact info I would try that, just to avoid any misunderstandings

You can do that - ONLY if you republish the plugin as free also

I don’t have plans to sell it separately or publish it. I want to use it only in my commercial themes, using my branding

As it is GPL, you can do it, but inside the Commercial Theme you are selling it
You will have to add the plugin inside WP.ORG and use TGM from there

You can use the plugin if it’s 100% free (e.g from WordPress.Org) but you should give the credits.
Before check the plugin details if it’s also available for commercial usage.
