Based on looking at the thumb image in this thread, the left side of the meat looks blurry, not sharp. It doesn’t look like intentional blur to me, looks like it should be sharp.

LSD is a hell of a drug! :octopus:

funny, but the professional who looked at this did not have a problem with that.

"Unfortunately we’re not able to accept your submission at this time as it does not meet our general quality requirements which can include one or a combination of the following issues.

– Poor lighting (too harsh or too soft, or distracting shadows/highlights)

– Under or over-exposure"

Do you blame it on LSD?

Why are you asking us if you’ve already got advice from the reviewer? I thought you had “no idea” why it was rejected.

Take it from me, LSD flashbacks can be inconvenient when you’re driving down the highway. :octopus:

I am asking because they gave different issues/points to chose from and i don’t know which one is the problem but i do not think you know that either. I have the feeling you are here for the party not for the help or the hard work!

Why don’t you look at your photos compared to approved photos of similar subjects? I promise you’ll see some differences.

I am working hard! Today I’m making a great effort to diversify my emoticon usage. :octopus: :dolphin:

Hi Istvan, we understand how some rejections can leave you with question marks. And we wish we could include a personalized and super detailed explanation on each rejection. But then you would probably have to wait weeks to get your files reviewed. The standards today are higher then they were and they won’t go back to what they once were. Customers have grown to expect high standards over the years.

There’s probably hundreds of thousands of photographers today submitting millions of images across all microstock sites. To have a chance at succeeding nowadays, you already need to be an experienced photographer with good knowledge of composition, lighting/exposure, commercial utility, noise, focus, trademarks, keywords, etc. If it’s not the case, there’s a very steep learning curve. Just like if someone received his first guitar last Christmas, his chances of going on tour in January would be slim.

For the image of the tractor it was approved by mistake (human errors can happen on the number of files being reviewed, just like sometimes some images get rejected and should have been approved). It has composition, lighting and under-exposure issues which greatly limits it’s commercial utility. As for the food shots, you can pick up any popular food magazine and have a look at the type of photography they produce. It’s usually well composed, bright, colorful, has good white balance and everything in the shot is setup to perfection.

You can view some of the type of content we are looking for here:

And a list of our most common rejections here:

As others have posted, you will find a lot of sites where you can learn more about stock photography and how to produce high quality, in demand content. When this industry started in the early 2000s the standards were much lower simply because the demand for affordable images was huge compared to the offer available at that time. Since then, most sites have tens of millions of images, many of which are extremely high quality. Accepting lower quality images only makes it harder for the customers to find the best images. If the customers aren’t happy with what they find they’ll shop elsewhere. So it’s not in anyone’s interest for us to approve lower quality images when so many good ones are being submitted.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction. If you have other questions, please let me know I’ll be happy to help. Best of luck!

I thought the meat is oversharp but I guess that’s the way you made it so…

Hi, the first picture is underexposed. Check out some good tutorials on how to use a histogram to develop your pictures. Generally, on daytime pictures, you want the histogram to almost touch the right side, without blowing out the highlights.

It also has some kind of a color tint that is not pleasing (and white balance is too cold). It was also taken on a cloudy day with really dull light, which makes it almost impossible to look good. If you would have taken the same picture after sunrise or before sunset it would have looked much, much more interesting.

Also, I would Photoshop out anything that can point to what brand or model any machinery is, like numbers.

The second meat picture also has very unpleasing light. There is a color tint that shouldn’t be there. The light is a bit too hard, but that can be subjective, if you were going for a “nasty, raw” feel, like, “meat is bad”. If you were going for a “meat is good and appetizing” feel you really need to work on the lighting and clean up the presentation (in real life mostly and Photoshop after). Like most pictures, food pictures need to look better than real life.

It is also only sharp in the middle, which doesn’t look intentional (like a shallow depth of field). It is most likely due to a cheap lens. To avoid this, you can move further away and crop afterwards to get everything sharp. Also, you can close down the aperture.

Keep on trying, it takes a while to make all the mistakes and learn from them. Photographing good food pictures is quite hard.

I upload only few photos right now and they aren’t “studio” quality but You can see what kind of quality they accept. And I do not advertise anything … Do You see some differents for example on my cake photo and Your steak ?

Same here rejection rejection rejection rejection. Don’t take it personal as my images sell VERY WELL on other sites.

Now this is what i have got? "
