Concept for “It Happened on This Day in the Civil War?”
Platform: WordPress Plugin.
Theme: Civil War
Background: Ability to use a custom background or have the blurb appear on the website background (that is, as if the text of the blurb is directly on the background).
Font: Standard TNR
Image: We would like to be able to add our own icons image. It would also be acceptable for “It happened on this day during the Civil War…” either blasting out of a cannon, or being “trumpeted” out of a bugle. If this isn’t possible, then just having a cannon or bugle image (Civil War era) would be OK.
Background, font, image color: We should be able to set the color using hex number, text editor or similar format.
Date: Every blurb will have the same calendar month/day as the day the blurb appears on the website. It will have a different year (1860, 1861, 1862, 1863, 1864, 1865) that corresponds with the specific blurb. For example, on July 4, 2016 the blurb that appears on the website might be July 4, 1863. Same month and day, but different year. Blurb should auto repost each year on the correct date if in blog type format.
May 30, 1862: Union troops had declared victory at Shiloh in early April, and Confederate troops had retreated to Corinth, Mississippi. On this day, Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard concedes that he can no longer hold Corinth and orders Rebel troops to evacuate the city.
Every blurb will be 1-3 sentences, 300 characters/spaces, prox. It is OK if a maximum number of characters/spaces is established (I will edit the blurbs so that they do not exceed the max).
Display of blurb: It can be “static” (that is, the text doesn’t move) or it can scroll like a text-ticker (but not too fast). A timeline might also be acceptable, depending on appearance.
Placement on website: Sidebar Widget is preferable however a timeline could be acceptable.
Posting Schedule: Ideally, we want to be able to load post/blurb via excel sheet upload. However in 1 week, 1 month, or 1 year of posts is acceptable as long as each one auto reposts on the same date each year.
Bonus Option: Ability for up to 5 different posts to display on the SAME DAY, on a rotating basis, throughout the day. That is, on July 4, 2016, up to five different blurbs would appear, at intervals, throughout the day: July 4, 1861, July 4, 1862, July 4, 1863, July 4, 1864, July 4, 1865.
