optional updates for support

I notice some exclusive authors dont update any more plugins on codecanyon (they dont advertize any plugin changes on codecanyon, and the plugin works properly, it just doesnt have any more features added over years).

Then on their website they update changelog and allow plugin update to already existing users only if support is active.

Is this grey zone? Or agains the rules?

Again , I repeat, their plugin works propely on codecanyon, they just stopped adding any more features.

It’s allowed on marketplace, the main reason is, authors cannot offer free updates anymore for lifetime and to get the auto updates, it’s required to have the active “support” period, this is a support feature anyway…

But I am not talking about auto updates, but any updates in general.

Authors are allowed to stop updating plugin on codecanyon (as long as it working properly) and any new features they offer, they do this over their website, only if support is active?

Generally same. You need to activate the item with purchase code first then to get the updates while you have “active” support period.

You’re paying 25$ for a Netflix every month for something barely you watch and paying 75% of the total item once in a 6 months, is this a problem?

Is the author “exclusive” at Envato?
