Name Similarity Concern: 'Elomus' vs 'Ecomus' on ThemeForest - Seeking Opinions

Hello fellow authors, I’ve noticed a potential issue regarding brand confusion on ThemeForest. My theme, ‘Elomus -Elomus Single Product Shop Shopify Theme by masstechnologist | ThemeForest’ , shares a very similar name with a newly listed item called ‘Ecomus - Ecomus - Ultimate Shopify OS 2.0 Theme by The4 | ThemeForest’. I’m concerned this similarity could lead to confusion among customers and possibly dilute our brand identities. I’d like to gather your thoughts on whether you think this warrants a request for a name change to avoid such confusion. Your insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I don’t think there’s anything you can do per Envato rules, if the name is available ( no existing item ) anyone can use it.

So, what you are suggesting that someone could take a well-known theme, change a single character in its name, and then use this slightly altered name to potentially mislead customers into purchasing theirs instead of the original?

Correct. I can create a theme and name it to somewhere similar and sell it.
An example, current names available on the marketplace: Avada, Avala, Anada

Given this understanding, would it be acceptable for me to name my next theme ‘Kelles’, a title closely resembling the popular theme ‘Kalles’?

All the similar items include the name and description that distinguishes them further (as does the one in your original post).

Theoretically there’s no reason that you could not use Kelles as long as it’s properly differentiates the rest of the title
