My upright bass sounds make me sad

I haven’t been able to upload my jazz pieces because when I open those sessions and hit play I hear the awful hollow “jazz bass” factory samples that come with my DAW, and it just ruins my day.

What’s your favorite upright bass sampler library that you’d recommend for jazz (1)?

(1) I write simple, mostly walking bass-type of lines, but I do make heavy use of dynamics, and really long notes.

Spectrasonic’s Trilogy is good and Gigastudio’s upright bass stuff is decent, but you’ll quickly get used to the sound and want something different (as least I did!).

Look at “Corebass Pear” library from Orange Tree Samples .

Spectrasonics Trilian sounds great, acoustic and electric basses especially

Free upright bass libraries:

the upright from Kontakt factory selection that comes with Kontakt Player

http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/producer/kontakt-5-player/

Kontr from Acoustic Samples Free collection

http://acousticsamples.net/bundles/as-free-collection

You will need UVI Workstation for this. This free collection and the free player don’t require iLok.

A “jazz bass”, not really know it, but it’s free:

If you don’t have Giga Sampler, you can play this format through Linux Sampler, which is not only Linux. Works on Windows or Mac OS as well.

The defunct NI Kore Player has some good upright coming with it’s factory selection. The software is dropped from future development, so, officially as product is no available anymore. Still, NI has it for free download here:

Yay, many options!

Thank you everyone!

Hey, just discovered the NI Kore Player Upright bass Mihai mentioned a few days ago and used it today on a new piece. Like it very much. Very nice bottom.

Not too sure for an upright bass, I’ll have to check out that Mihai! I use NI’s Scarbee Bass for bass guitar

Trillian is honestly so far ahead of the rest of them it’s not even close.

I’ve used a lot of the ones mentioned here but now only use Trilian, as Gareth said, it’s way above ate competition.

Chris Hein Bass has a really good upright bass samples, including nylon, gut and still.

Good call, the Chris Hein samples in general are really good. If Trillian didn’t exist they would be my 2nd choice.

Trilian is also my first choice.
If your DAW or soft samplers can handle the EXS24 format, i could share some self collected / sampled / processed upright bass samples. They are not “usual” and clean sounding, but more gnarly and creacky

Good day to everyone.
