My article on Codecayon was rejected

My article on Codecayon was rejected, they sent me the following email:

Thank you for your submission. We have completed our review of “Bingo Family: Online Bingo Game with PHP” and unfortunately we found it isn’t at the quality standard required to move forward, and you won’t be able to re-submit this item again. We appreciate the effort and time you’ve put into creating your item. And we’d be happy to help make sure your next entry will meet our submission requirements. Here’s our advice: Visit our forums and ask fellow authors for feedback. Our helpful community will be glad to lend a hand.

They help me verify that the rejection could be generated, my system is a Virtual Bingo system in PHP 8.2 and Codeigniter 4.5. Although I think that in less than 3 hours they couldn’t do a review.

It’s not great - I logged in as a player and got confused, so not clear enough on what icons do what for starters. Well done on creating something special, but if Envato have rejected it, then move on to another project, or sell it privately on your own website.

It sounds frustrating to have your submission rejected, especially when you believe they didn’t spend enough time reviewing it properly. Based on Codecanyon’s general rejection reasons, here are some possible issues that might have led to the rejection of your Bingo Family: Online Bingo Game:

Possible Reasons for Rejection

  1. Code Quality Issues
  • Even though your system uses PHP 8.2 and CodeIgniter 4.5, Codecanyon has strict coding standards.
  • Ensure your code is clean, well-documented, and follows best practices.
  1. Incomplete or Poor Documentation
  • Buyers on Codecanyon need clear installation and usage instructions.
  • Include a detailed README with setup steps, server requirements, and troubleshooting.
  1. Design & User Interface (UI/UX)
  • Even if the functionality is great, a basic or outdated UI can cause rejection.
  • Ensure your design is modern, responsive, and easy to use.
  1. Security Issues
  • Codecanyon checks for common security vulnerabilities.
  • Avoid SQL Injection, XSS, CSRF attacks, and ensure secure authentication and user management.
  1. Lack of Unique Features
  • If the system is too basic or similar to other bingo scripts, they might reject it.
  • Make sure it has innovative features that set it apart.
  1. Missing Demo or Broken Functionality
  • A working live demo is crucial.
  • If they encountered errors, bugs, or missing features, they likely rejected it quickly.

Next Steps

  • Improve UI/UX if it’s too simple or outdated.
  • Enhance documentation with clear installation steps.
  • Validate security and code quality using tools like PHPStan or CodeIgniter’s built-in security features.
  • Provide a polished demo to showcase all features.
