Missing Style.css

When I attempt to install this theme it fails with a message saying that the theme is missing Style.css.

The file is present in the zip. Any ideas?

Using WP 3.3.2

You are trying to install all the files not just the theme folder

Only copy the “theme” folder to the WP-content/theme folder (if via FTP) Or upload only the "Theme zip not whole download Zip (if via WP-admin)

Gary, you sure you didn’t buy a site template instead of a WordPress theme?

Have you tried this yet? Solving broken theme issues.

I guess you didn’t take the time to read the previous answer (from charlie4282)… :stuck_out_tongue:

Gary - if as DigitalImpact asked you are sure you have not got the HTML version then have you tried uploadng the theme Via FTP?

Simply add Just the theme folder (unzipped) to the WP-contents > Themes folder in your ftp.

All this is in the support link above too

Hmm I did…guess I didn’t read it close enough

And yes, your exactly right, he bought an HTML template and not a WordPress theme. Please contact Support Gary and they be able to help with your mistake. Thanks!

Been seeing such mistakes a lot lately. Guess the item pages need to make it more obvious what you’re buying (?)

Thank you for the replies. I guess I had better find out the difference between an HTML template and a theme, presumed they were one and the same.

I’ve only ever used WP and Genesis themes before and thought this would be the same. I have very little knowledge of HTML and am looking for a ‘quick fix’ solution to building web sites.

Shame as really like the look of Clean Portfolio and it is exactly what I need. Am I right in saying without coding skills this ‘theme’ isn’t for me?

The good news is that it’s available as a WordPress theme

Charlie, how can I upload via FTP without it being zipped? Am I right in trying to do this via cpanel?

I created a folder within themes called ‘site’ but the files are not going in there, now they are unzipped do I have to upload everything individually into the relevant folder? That just doesn’t seem right to the point I wish I hadn’t written it!

I have tried to drag the files into the theme folder and it won’t let me do that either.

Gary - next time, take a moment to read above the title of the item (those gray links), just to make sure you know what you’re buying. Here’s an example:

As for that site template you bought, I’d do as KingDog said and contact support to see if it can be sorted out. If not, I guess you could hire someone to code it for WordPress.

Hey Gary - HTML is not a “theme” it is a set of “templates” - HTML is exactly that, pure html for building a site using code - wordpress uses pre made “themes” - you need to purchase “themes” for wordpress - hope that helps

Jonathan

Thank you King Dog, that is what I am after.

Lets hope the site owners are kind and let me get a refund on what I have bought. If not its a lesson learnt.

Will do that now and let you know how I get on.

Thank you to all that replied.

No problem Gary. Support will be happy to help you out.

Hi Gary, firstly - this file does come as a WP theme and a HTML theme. If you have bought the HMTL theme then it is no use trying to upload it to the Wordpress via admin or FTP as it wont work.

If you have the HTML version and you want to try and work with that - obviously you need to open it with a HMTL editor to make the changes then once you have made all you want then you copy ALL of the files/folders (except documentation stuff) from the main folder into your web directory.

If you have bought the WP version now then you can either try again following the instructions in the earlier link and using admin OR you unzip the theme folder and drop it into the “WP-Contents” >> “Themes” folder in your ftp where you have installed Wordpress.

Any more issues you can email me charlie4282@hotmail.com

All installed, excellent cheers all.

Hi
I Just bought a theme after payment and then downloaded it and installed it using the wp. Same error "missing style.css"
Then I unzipped the theme and via FTP uploaded the theme folder . Now what?

Nothing show up on the home screen/WP page. There is nothing I can activate or have it running on the user end. Looks like nothing happened.

Pls help

After the unzipp, the second most popular problem about this is that the item isn’t actually an Wordpress theme… But HTML template, or PSD design…

Inside your main downloaded zip you should have instructions detailing how to first - activate the theme - then setup etc If you are having difficulty with that I recommend contacting the author either via their profile page, the comment area of the item or whatever support direction is supplied in your documentation.

Hope that helps
