Hi all,

It’s a really pretty track Aphanasis, I like it a lot. It evolves really nicely. For me, the possible reason for rejection would be the portamento notes in the violins. After a while, they start to become predictable and it starts to get a little bit irritating. I would use the normal fingered legato samples and perhaps throw in one or two portamento notes occasionally, for variation if you really feel like it needs it.
Possibly vary the velocity of the piano intro too. The repeating pattern feels a bit automated and I think a more organic feel to it would work nicer. Maybe bring the level of it down just a little bit too. I like the effect, but it’s just a bit overbearing I think.
The breakdown is awesome, it reminds me of Sigur Ros. Also, I love how you use the bassoon to provide most of the bass in the first part, then when the contrabasses take over after the break, it’s really powerful. That bass note at 2:16 gave me chills.
I think the brass samples are the least convincing, especially when they are exposed at the end. Also, there is dissonance at 2:30.
Thank you for taking the time to listen and for the detailed feedback!
Thanks for the advice. I don’t really have an excuse for using it so much, so I won’t offer one!
Noted. It’s a new piano instrument and I’m still getting to grips with it, so clearly some more work to be done there.
Thanks! I’m very fond of that part too.
I somehow hadn’t noticed this, but now that you’ve pointed it out, it’s incredibly obvious.
Thank you again for listening and for the feedback. It’s much appreciated!

At 0:34 and 0:49 some dissonance in piano, and it repeats through all track. IMHO) May be this is the reason…
Thank you for taking the time to listen and thanks for the feedback!
I guess different people can stomach different levels of dissonance, as that sounds quite mild to me. I come from a metal background, so I’m quite used to it (and actually enjoy it in the right context) and that might be why it’s not as noticeable to me. I’ll definitely make a point of avoiding it altogether in future if at all possible if it stands out as wrong or bad to people.
Thanks again!
