I have followed both suggestions to upload my theme “cheope” but it’s not working, now I get this message: The style.css stylesheet doesn’t contain a valid theme header.

What should I do?

@itsmattadams thank you. it seems that worked well. But I got a new message:

The theme is missing the index.php file.

And this index.php file isn’t in any of the folders. Can you help me again?

Ignore the post above, you don’t need to add anything to anything. The problem is you’re trying to upload the entire zip file which also includes documentation and license information. You need to extract the zip to find the theme zip inside.

Edit: Unless you’re trying to upload the zip of a HTML template to WordPress. Double check you actually have a WordPress theme.

@PaulWinslow I upload the .zip file only with the folder theme.

That is not a WordPress theme but a pure html template.
