Licence key for Windows and Mac desktop app

Hi,

We are considering adding our software to codecanyon.
Our software is a desktop app for Windows and Mac.
We have same installation msi/dmg for Free and Commercial versions. We just unlocking some features when user enter Licence key.
Question is how we can use purchase data to match user and generate licence key?
Can we use some kind of id (e.g. invoice id or order id) to match and generate software key for user.
In other words, when user starts app for the first time we can provide invoideId/orderId fields. Once user enter these he will get license key.

Does this make sense or there is another solution.
Any suggestion is welcome.

You can use envato api to validate purchase code. I am doing that in my tools.

We gonna implement this and submit our app.
