You will still need to submit the W-8BEN module with relevant information (country) or else i hightly doubt they will process the payment even if those sales were not subject to any withholding tax which makes no sense to me.
Just to make sure, the w 8 form and the tax information field on your settings page are the same (meaning if you fill out the tax information field is the same as if you filled w8) someone from the staff confirmed this earlier I think, someone?
Just a little note, to help people having trouble with the form save some time. When you submit the Tax Information form and get an error saying that âsome of the details are incorrectâ, yet nothing is marked with red and everything is filled out correctly: make sure to first enter your last name and then your first name in the signature field at the end of the form.
Correct example: Gates Bill
Incorrect example: Bill Gates
Iâve been trying to submit the form for about 30 minutes until I figured that out.
Youâre wrong mate. Instructions say âgiven nameâ and âfamily nameâ, they are extremely clear. And there is no algorithm on earth that can recognise if itâs not your âfirst nameâ but âlast nameâ instead. People may have âlast namesâ look like âfirst nameâ.
I received the same error message but the problem was using some letters from countryâs own alphabet. You must fill the form with the letters from English alphabet only.
But youâre right about the notification. It doesnât say anything about what went wrong. There should be an information or notification about what went wrong so we wonât have to struggle or may be even make some changes that we shouldnât do.

Huh, I am soooooo confused⌠butâŚ
I am unemployed from not treaty country and I dont have Tax numberâŚ
So , is enough to fill my data from my Profile âsettingsâ ( is it same like I sent W8 form? ) and check " that I am unable to provide tax numberâŚetc ??..then, I suppose, will have 30% lower earnings for Us salesâŚ
Huh, please, someone tell me is it enoughâŚI just can not read this anymoreâŚI give up
If you donât provide a number you will be charged 30% of all your earnings not just the US ones
Actually, no. If you donât provide a number, but submit the form, you will be charged 30% on U.S. sales only. You will be charged 30% of all earnings if you never send the form.
Correct. Though itâs 28% of all sales, not 30%.
HUHâŚso who has right now???
If I send form from non treaty country without number I will be charged 30% form US SALES ONLY?!!
If I NEVER send form I will be charged 30 % FOR ALL SALES?!?!
and can I do it only from "My profile settings form " .Is it OK??
From what I understand, the form in the âTax Informationâ section is the W-8 form you need to sign.
If you submit the form with a tax number, you will get the benefits associated with your countryâs tax treaty with the US (usually 0-15%), or if your country doesnât have a tax treaty it will be 30%.
If you submit the form without a tax number, itâs 30% on all US sales (though I havenât seen a clear answer from staff regarding this yet).
If you donât submit the form at all, itâs a blanket fee of 28% on all sales.
Staff (or anyone else) feel free to correct me if I havenât understood correctly
This is starting to sound like an Abbott and Costello sketch.
Correct. Well, near enough.
You mean , 28 % for all sale? and now, All IS CORRECT?
Question:
Iâv just completely updated my tax information via AJ profile settings, as a ânon-USâ, âindividualâ with a âforeign tax ID Numberâ. Is that it? Am I safe now?
Second question:
The tax that they withhold, can we get it back in some way? Tax income thresholds apply here or not?
Unfortunately not.
Everything youâve said here is correctâŚ
If I send form from non treaty country without number I will be charged 30% form US SALES ONLY?!!
If I NEVER send form I will be charged 30 % FOR ALL SALES?!?!
and can I do it only from "My profile settings form " .Is it OK??
âŚjust that one of those 30 percents is 28 percent. I forget which one is which.
its been two days @natman or @collis answered to the queries.
Please answer to those who needs clarification. What happened to your Q & A ?
Is that it?
Yep, if youâve filled out the form correctly, adding the correct tax ID number, then thatâs it. Whether youâre safe or not⌠depends where you pay taxes and what the withholding percentage is according to your countries tax treaty. Youâll still get somewhere between 0% and 30% withheld for all US sales, but as youâve filled out the W8, then (in theory) you wonât get anything withheld for non-US sales.
As for getting your money back, I can only assume that you take the receipt youâll get from Envato at the end of 2016 and present it to your tax people, so you donât get taxed twice. How straightforward that is, I donât know. And if your country doesnât have a tax agreement with the US then itâs likely going to be more problematic than if your country does. I guess there is always the possibility that a tax receipt issued by a country that doesnât have a tax treaty with yours, might not be honoured. Time will tell.
Thank you for your help SpaceStockFootage!
The country is Poland, and its 10%. (compared to Czech 0%, Slovakia 0% and Hungary 0%, its 10% + wtf.)
But will I get some sort of confirmation from Envato that my account is good to go and ready for 2016?
What I dont want to get is an email with a worst case scenario statement.
