If this creepy news was announced in April, I would say this is April fool… but unfortunately we’re in October… Are you sure guys that there’s no October fool?
Hey, I’m from Romania and my country has a treaty with USA, in this case I have to pay only 10% to US IRS. “LUCKY ME !”
Why I said lucky me ? Because now I have to pay ONLY 50% to Envato, 10% to USA and 16% to Romania, 3.4% to Paypal if I want to withdraw my money.
US government is the most stupid thing in the world, how the hell is that possible to FORCE a citizen from other continent to pay taxes into your country ? You can restrict your citizens to pay taxes, OR NOT to pay at all, or restrict all transactions on internet. This is not my problem … BUT don’t force citizens from other countries to pay taxes for you ! This is a stupid game !
Envato doesn’t have the capability to handle the enormous author community which is increasing day by day. They don’t have that much staff it seems. One eg for this is the review process which is always delayed.
Envato want only serious business authors/companies and not a parttime author who earns $500 per month.
Envato trying to refine their marketplace with quality products/support and serious authors by cutting down part time freelancers who are not serious as an author.
Envato has suffered huge loss from EU VAT and so they are not going to do the same mistake again by charging TAX to US buyers. Now, they strike authors with this TAX.
ENVATO WHAT’S THE TRUTH! SPEAK UP! ALL NEED TO KNOW!
However I understand that there will be some authors, affiliates and users who may find that this means that selling with Envato no longer makes sense. As always, it’s important for every user to weigh up their situation and consider what’s best for them.
Shame on you Envato! To resume, > As always take it or leave… This isn’t the way…
How can the seller pay as well the buyer taxes? Come on, this has never existed anywhere before… I feel robbed!
Hah, really funny! But I suggest everyone to read the whole thread, to see what fellow authors think about this shocking decision, and how it is influencing them. It is very important because we have to unite and protest this! This whole thing is ridiculous! Authors, we have to realize that without us Envato doesn’t have anything, literally anything.
I see a little bit more clear about this FANTASTIC UPDATE.
Now, you can’t sell on Envato if you are not a pure player.
This is for the US now, but I’m pretty sure that we will have this type of modification for more and more countries in the future, only in the goal to keep full time authors on the market.
What to do now?
Create your own business, get a VAT number and keep up your great work sold for a ridiculous price…
Additionally, Envato shouldn’t forget that WE ARE the essence of the market, without us, what’s Envato?
If you live e.g. in Germany and you selling digital products to the other countries in European Union, you must pay taxes in the country, where is your customer located. It is EU rule. Not so good too, hm? Whole EU like digital products. Every wants to cut some money, so USA is in too
I’m shocked and I sincerely sympathize with authors from 126 countries who do not have contracts with the United States. People were divided into 2 groups. One group over another. And all this after the purple day, where they wrote that everyone should be equal. Double standards will kill this world.
