Help about license

I got an email that he wants to buy my presentation with a license to be able to change and resell it, and the item is only available on envato elements, is this safe? what should I do? please help me

A few things -

  1. There is no Envato license (on any marketplaces) that allows them to “resell” the item multiple times

  2. You are an exclusive author so you can only sell it via Envato marketplaces and under Envato licensing

This persons option is to:

A. License and adapt individual copies from elements one by one as required - they need to be subscribed when using it and cannot stockpile copies of it for future use

B. They could hire you to create something bespoke for them privately which you could then sell outside of Envato licenses. If they plan to resell it on mass then make sure they pay you properly for it!!

thank you very much for giving me advice, this really helped me.

I actually received the exact same email earlier today — word for word. (Attaching a screenshot below as proof.)

Just wanted to raise a caution to fellow authors here: please be very careful with emails like this. Not only does the request to “modify and resell” clearly go against Envato’s licensing terms, but there’s also a chance this could be a phishing attempt trying to obtain the email address linked to your Envato Elements account — possibly for malicious purposes.

A few security tips:

  • Avoid using an email address that matches your Envato username (especially if it’s visible on your Market profile or has been used in the past).
  • Make sure to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your Envato account.
  • Never share login details or sensitive information via email.

This isn’t the first time I’ve received this kind of email. I’m not trying to accuse anyone directly, but the nature of the request is already against Envato’s policy and definitely feels suspicious.

I’ve reached out to Author Support a few hours ago and am currently waiting for their response regarding this.

Stay safe out there!

I’m panicking, did you reply to the email?

Almost certainly this is people wanting to be an author but who don’t have the skillset or experience to create stuff themselves.

They probably see the idea of editing an approved item as a quick way to approval and sales.

I tried to reply to the email, a few hours later I got an email from envato to reset my password, I hope nothing bad happens!

No need to panic, but just to be safe — make sure you’ve enabled Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and change your password if you haven’t recently. It’s possible someone tried to trigger a password reset, so better to secure your account and stay cautious with emails like that, especially when they mention license terms that go against Envato’s policy.
