Hey,

I’ve seen great increase in these types of sites, but there isn’t really anything on the market that’s your go-to platform, when looking to launch a social media news site like Hacker News.

Here’s some inspiration,

  • http://news.shouth.com/

GitHub has a lot of stuff that’s very similar, but many of the available platforms on GitHub require separate setups of RoR, Django, Node.js, etc,. etc,. Very time consuming process, and sometimes completely unnecessary, when it comes to building sites like these.

I’d definitely love to see features like adding descriptions for submitted links, disqus comments, related links… etc,. I’m sure there are quite a few people who’d love to have a script like this in their collection, I personally would grab a copy and recommend it to my friends, if it’s any good.

Looking forward to opinions, and perhaps someones up for the job?

I have no reason to believe you couldn’t help me, but I didn’t suggest this as a single project, but as a project for everyone. I could do this (and have done) myself, but I’m looking for something that’s very standalone, and doesn’t require the newest technology.
