Hi, my website builder got soft rejected and reviewer gave me these reasons : Demo is not working - Your documentation is still lacking, please expand it, add more detail or add a quick start to show all the features and how to use it.
My main problem is how to write a perfect documentation. Should it be only a single page documentation.html? Or I can use a folder named ‘documentation’ and use any framework to do it? Because writing a beautiful and interactive documentation in one html page is time consuming. And my second question is - For a quick start guide should I embed a video which shows all the features or should I write in text format? If anyone can give me any link of a live documentation page it will be very helpful.
And my last question is - If my protected page from my demo not works in the iframe , will it cost me a rejection?
Thank you. That’s all I need to know. If you show me the right way it will be very helpful.
It’s not about one page documentation, it’s about how you manage the data and the details. You need to add more details how to use the item.
You can go to the ThemeForest > Homepage and find the “free of the month” section to download one of the “free” items to check how the documentation is handled.
Yes, if you’re unable to fix the “demo not working” problem, after the second/third time, you will get hard rejection. Avoid using iFrame.
Thank you, for your valuable reply. So, when previewing the demo, if my protected pages not work in the iframe what envato set which says buy now, will that be a problem for my item to be approved?
They won’t test it in an iframe but what’s the point of having a demo that no one can then see? It guarantees no sales and a stream of complaints
Do not use protected pages or iframe. If the reviewer can’t check the demo, the item will be rejected.
Here is an example of live documentation Revolution Lightbox JavaScript API
There are several aspects to any theme or template submission - you have had answers about not using iframe, and making sure your demo can be seen.
Documentation to me is important - if I am buying a theme/template/script then I expect the author to be able to explain exactly how their system works. It’s no good to me if they know - as I customer I need to know!
The better your documentation the less you will get asked the same questions over and over again.
So if writing the documentation is time consuming, then think about how many hours you put into creating the project. If you want it to sell, then write the documentation and explain how it works.
I have helped others with this type of work if you are interested.
The documentation us as important as the project!
