Finally registering my portfolio on Identifyy...

How can I leave Identifyy and release my tracks? Do you have any idea? They are extremely slow to respond about this and seem not to listen.

For me it wasn’t easy. It took about a month of back and forth. With each mail getting more heated than the previous one.

First they agreed to release a few of my tracks as a “courtesy”. I thanked them for being so courteous and asked them how many tracks they would let me have back. They refused to tell me, and rather asked me for specific titles I wanted them to release. Eventually I told them I wanted them all released. I had to remind them that they had to tell me when my exclusivity agreement was to end, and not telling me was akin to entrapment. I also asked why they were willing to tarnish their image to keep assets they were not willing to monetize fully.

They finally caved in, but as a last FU, instead of releasing ownership of the assets, they deleted my whole catalogue from ContentID altogether. As it was during the summer and I was away, this meant I lost a month and a half of earnings.

Since then, they refuse to communicate with me. They stole my balance, as it was under the threshold.

All in all, it was a very very unpleasant ordeal. I have never in my life had such a terrible interaction with a service provider. The way they communicated with me was beyond anything. From deflective, to dismissive, condescending, trolling, insulting, threatening… They just acted as bullies.

But if you don’t back down, you can get free.

By the way for all those who could be tempted to join them due to the new Envato Claim Clear tool. You should really think twice!

Identifyy’s perks:

  1. One of the worst, if not the worst, rate among ContentID service provider. Unfortunately their high 30% cut doesn’t mean a better service, far from it.

  2. An abusive exclusivity agreement, that will supposedly run for 3 years! But here’s the kicker, you only have a tiny time window to cancel the agreement before the date of automatic renewal. And they refuse to tell you when this date is. This way they can entrap authors indefinitely.

  3. The worst support you can imagine. Expect to receive no respect whatsoever. Their communication is at best dismissive, or downright antagonizing.

  4. The uncertainty of receiving your earnings. They’re crooks who are willing to steal your earnings just out of spite.

  5. A ridiculous 10,000 views threshold for claiming, which means than most videos would go unclaimed.

  6. A subpar ContentID management. They don’t claim all they could claim. I lost out on a lot of money because of them. My new service provider found many previously unclaimed year-old videos.

The fact that Envato is teaming up with these bozos and are trying to send more authors in harm’s way is disgusting. This abuse is unacceptable and Envato should not be complicit.

What service do you recommend for managing content ID if not Identifiy? Thanks!

Since I was one of those who actively recommended Identifyy years back, and I feel so stupid for it, I’m not going to do the same mistake again.

But the way I see it, any other service provider is a better choice than Identifyy.

AdRev has been very good for me so I recommend them although they are not part of Claim Clear…yet.

Yes, for me too. I’ve been with them since 2014, and they’ve been easy to deal with.

A couple of years ago I wanted to remove some tracks from the system, and within 1 day or 2, they were gone.

We also get 80%. Big difference compared to 70%. That might not be the best in the business though, I’m not quite sure. If someone offered 90%, I’d be tempted to at least take a look.

From $100 spent by the advertiser on YouTube, 55% reaches the CID intermediary. In the case of Identifyy, they take 30% of that ($16.5 = $38.5 left for you), the taxman takes 0-50% of that depending of where you live (I’m not lucky there).

About $20 left from the original $100 to buy stuff with… Every dollar counts.

The big question is:

Do they (AdRev) accept just anyone these days? I had the impression that they closed the open doors and that they are now more selective with their clients.

Do you know anything about that @gballx?

I had bad experience with both AdRev and Elite Alliance. No major issues with Identifyy, except for the 70%

AdRev has not served me well at all. Was stuck in a limbo for years there with only a few hundred claimed videos and very small monthly revenue.

After switching to Identifyy, they found and claimed 80,000+ videos with my music in just few months.

Identifyy is not perfect, but I would still choose them VS AdRev, no brainer.

That was my experience.

That was the experience for most of us who made the switch from AdRev to Identifyy.

But after some time, many of us were put back in the same limbo. Only this time we were entrapped and had to deal with an antagonizing support.

At least when I had issues with AdRev, they let me go without giving me hell.

I was in almost the exact same contract with AdRev, I couldn’t just leave whenever I want. It was the same 3 year deal as Identifyy has.

AdRev eventually agreed to let me go bit earlier but it wasn’t easy and I couldn’t just leave whenever I want. I managed to convince them eventually to let me go before the contract ends, but they weren’t happy about it
