Help - I am using the EventMana theme - https://www.gotrievents.com/ - and it is VERY slow to load initially. Is there anything I can do to speed up the initial load of the website? Once the website loads, it works well and seem to be speedy to navigate through the pages.

I will start with image resizing. For example, this image:

is 1.8MB - it is huge. Also, it is 2222x1065px big and you are using this image on your Home page but you are displaying it in 360x170px resolution - you don’t need so big image on Home page.
Also, there are some more images which you need to reduce.
