Error when trying to open a .docx file

When trying to open a .DOCX file in Word 2013 I receive the following error message:

“there was an error opening the file.”

What can be causing this to happen?

Try these options:

  1. Move the file to another location and reopen it.
  2. Unblock the file by its security setting.
  3. Repair MS Office program from control panel.
