Hi, part of the growth was the Envato Studio, it is fully integrated into the marketplace
With the shift to subscription business model, which every big company either made or is in process of making, I would not have high hopes for the marketplaces.
Envato probably had to think more in the direction of merging Studio with Elements and keep offering the customization/installation services as an extra, but it is what it is.
That’s the issue, the marketplace did and can do well without an Elements-like subscription model. That model is starting to fall apart for all platforms because it is very bad for authors (on Netflix shows keep getting cancelled, film production companies pulling movies or making their own separate services, etc.).
If Envato still want subscriptions, for the marketplace the solution is/was simple and something that has been heavily requested: for platforms like ThemeForest and CodeCanyon add the option to have a yearly subscription for updates (currently it’s only an optional one for support). Customers could still subscribe to each item individually, so the authors’ revenue would improve, and not be heavily diluted as with the Elements model.
That being said, consumers are still buying one-time products and the trend is going back to one-time purchases instead of subscriptions, simply because having an all-inclusive subscription for a very low amount doesn’t work for content creators.
A solution to take into consideration, when removing the express services, could simply be to add an option (editable by each author) to offer the installation/customization directly via the marketplaces at the time of purchase:
I know it’s not the same thing, but this is fairly easy to implement, can be a quick alternative and would bring additional revenue to authors and offer help to users that want this kind of service.
That is not a solution from Envato’s perspective. It is even more expensive and requires even more man power/support staff. It is one thing to manage and deal with 500 designers that edit/install templates, it’s completely different game when you have 50 000(probably much more, I don’t know) designers and each one able to offer that service and expected to deliver results in hours from client’s order.
I think that you guys often forget for who these platforms are created in the first place.
That would be great for authors on Envato Market!
Will be not fair for service providers who are not theme authors
agree with you
There’re lots of authors who’s not providing support even though the item is offering “extra support” option. It’d be hard to control who’s doing what work if they offer this service for the authors - apart from it’s an utopia, Studio was built for installation services if you didn’t notice - therefor they could keep the quality at some level by interacting the providers and improve the quality.
It will be better if any one of us can create a similar platform like the studio. Just for express service… all of the service providers will lead their clients to that platform. I am not a developer, I am a designer… that’s why I can’t develop a site like that. Otherwise, I will create it now. Great opportunity.
The issue is not creating the system, finding the clients/jobs. When you’re able to find the clients/jobs, you don’t actually need the system - you can offer the service directly.
yes, if it is only me or only you then it is correct but if we all together come in one place then it can be possible. we all have some regular clients. If we bring them together it will become bigger. And also more people means more publicity and more exposure… It is just my thought, it can be wrong.
While I hope that a solution to help everyone can be found and it’s great that people have presented potential ideas, it’s also super important that there’s clarity on different aspects to prevent further confusion or frustration.
The obvious one is the idea of creating a new substitute for studio - aside from the fact several giant freelancer sites already exist, designing or building something is only a small part of the challenge, and there are numerous experts on the network that could almost certainly deliver it.
The legal, commercial, and logistical demands of creating this, let alone managing it ongoing are huge and would require significant cost and resource.
Part of studios success and USP was that it belonged to and was part of envato (who already had a large % of the necessary infrastructure in place to deliver this). The impact of it having this would be significant.
Hello There!
Thank you for the “Proof of Employment” that’s gonna be useful.
Question: Is there a more accessible route for Studio Service Providers to get a Master Services Agreement to publish articles/tutorials for https://tutsplus.com/ ?
There are designers and programmers/developers amongst them and it could be an optional way to earn money until they can find another site to keep doing their freelance journey.
The “Express Services” offer a solution for a large percentage of buyers who need that starting point to get started with their website, or to quickly customize a design, without having to go to another platform to find someone to do the job.
This solution integrated with the Marketplaces and the team of providers that perform these express services efficiently, is what other platforms do not have.
For the providers of these services, it offered us a continuous workflow, which now, at short notice, will be suddenly cut off.
Envato, I hope that you will please consider these Express Services as a “Separate Issue” at the close of Studio, and we will have the possibility to continue in some way or get a more favorable resolution.
same condition here…
@BenLeong Are you considering something like this?
It’s not a solution for long term but for short term, it will help all of the Studio providers.
Edit: I just noticed “Export Provider reviews” . I’m not sure if it’d be helpful to get all of these reviews, appreciated the afford but I’m wondering if it’s possible to get all of the job details with the images as well? I’m sure it’d be more useful to import these into personal websites.
@BenLeong @KingDog
Has anyone received their Proof of Employment Letter? I haven’t got mine and did contact the supports team
Hi all. You can now export all your buyer reviews, via the Your Jobs page:
This produces a CSV file that contains every customer review you have received, with the following information:
["review date", "customer name", "product name", "recommended", "star rating", "review content"]
If you want to import these to another ratings site, check their documentation to make sure you have the right format. For example, if you have a Business account on Trustpilot, you can import third-party reviews by following the instructions here.
@zendcrew The letters are currently being prepared, and will be sent out to everyone who has opened a support ticket to request one.
I’m continuing to raise all questions from this forum thread with the rest of the team. However, if you would like an official letter confirming your years of service on the Envato Studio platform, please open a support request and we’ll get these out to you as soon as possible.
It looks like envato is going to add studio service to elements! Since there is no support in elements, probably envato will add features in elements like paid customization, installation etc. This is just an assumption as an author.
