Envato Birthday Marketing Campaign (ThemeForest Nominations)

That’s your decision, and you have every right to not want your item included, but surely…

…would have been the same if you’d been informed and had prepared your marketing campaign, or if you hadn’t.

First of all, I have misread “The included buyer fee will not change” as “not charge”. Sounded too good to miss the opportunity.
Do I feel completely utterly stupid? - Yes. But I’m not afraid to admit it.

Second, don’t underestimate the power of the dark side #1 spot in Top Sellers List.
Jokes aside, I think that if a right product will make there, it may potentially turn the tables. But not The7. At least not this time.

Hey folks,

So there’s a lot here. I’ve just gone through and removed any posts that are calling out specific authors. As a reminder, this very much against the rules of this forum.

There have been a few learnings here for us around this campaign rollout, which we’ll be taking on board for future campaigns. A few items were removed at the last minute, which led to some last-minute inclusions too, but all from items that had already been nominated for usage. @dream-theme I’m sending you a direct message to talk through this.

It’s super-important for everyone note: All authors are free to change their item price at any time. In any ADP marketplace, all pricing decisions are ultimately at the decision of the author. We will never force an author to alter their price and all marketing campaigns are strictly opt-in. If an author does opts into the campaign, the team has to assume that they’ve read and understood the campaign description before doing so. Including:

By nominating for this promotion, you are choosing to set your price to 50% of its Original Price, for the specified six day period.

Whilst we work under this assumption, any author is fully able to change their item price whenever they want. Equally, we (Envato) reserve the right to remove the item from our campaign if their item doesn’t meet the promotional criteria (ie: it’s no longer listed at 50% off). But again, what an author chooses to do in an ADP category is up to them.

Hey @matthewcoxy,
I’ve already explained that:

  1. I nominated the item misreading the terms.
  2. I was not notified (at all) of the item being included to the Birthday Bundle.
It is 4-day national holiday in our country. We had no chance to prepare marketing materials for the item page. We had no time to hire specialists for additional marketing efforts (posts on specialised blogs and social media). Therefore there was no way we could take full advantage of the campaign.

I realise the inconvenience I caused to Envato and sincerely apologise for it.
I’m also grateful for resolving the issue in timely manner.

On a side-note I have to admit that I was really disappointed reading all the hate comments from fellow authors…

@matthewcoxy apologize, that it is necessary to remind, but what on a rest of the others?

I think it was more curiosity about what was going on, rather than ‘hate’. There’s too much love in these forums for hate to take a hold. Peace out brother!

This seems to be (at least) not a well-prepared campaign ever made by Envato.
1- Violating the rule of limited number of 2 items maximum/author
2- Wrong emails with wrong items/authors
3- There are some prices in odd number such as $65, they told to make it 50% at $32.5, I think this is impossible with the current system. We should be very precise about the number $32 or $33.
4- Some items are not actually 50% off due to an administrative error with the price change tool.
5- Just take items into the campaign without author notice in advance.
6- It should be a premium landing page that is only for Envato Market (we don’t know that we are included in a Elements campaign, in which it took 1st position) or at least these links should be big banners than just a simple text link to a collection
7- Landing page link to a collection is a very amateur method. It seems they want to utilize the data shown on the market (rating, sales, price) and save time for creating data to input into the landing page like what they did at last Cyber Monday (which was so professional). This campaign will be valid in a week so I think Envato can put much more effort for this page.

@ThemeFusion I am with you, I followed you guys from the very first days I know Envato and you since are the benchmark of the sale trend. Sometimes your sale exceeded 2k+ which is very motivated, you’re once the reason we want to stick to this market.
Everybody wants “Zero to Hero”, instead, I want “Hero to Zero” which I can stand in front of No.1.
Just kidding.
I am 50/50 with ADP as we can increase to the price we want and the actual truth we get higher revenue with higher price than just sale at low price.
However, the side effect is obviously the price battle to the bottom from some authors.

The market trend is not good before the campaign run and hit a little bit traffic increase but I haven’t seen any “revolutionary” sale number increase with the items in the campaign (except the withdrawal-you-know-the-item).
Anyway, let’s observe until the campaign ends.

Hey man,

Let me apologize for our “hate” comments. We don’t hate you at all  We do respect all the authors and Envato in general.

But inviting a #2 seller to the campaign is a bit ridiculous. Don’t you think? It’s like selling a Tesla and a few Volkswagen Beetles at the same discounted price + putting the Tesla in front of all potential buyers…

Nice one

In this case I apologize for building a Tesla
Peace.

Haha  But you do know what I’m saying…

Well to be fair, they invited all sellers to the campaign by posting an open thread for submissions. It would be more ridiculous if they did that, but said that #1 and #2 sellers can’t participate. As for the Tesla and Volkswagen comparison… maybe so, but high quality items drive traffic to sales. You don’t see people camping out overnight and fighting over pencil sharpeners and garden gnomes when it’s Black Friday.

Come on, I do understand the campaign rules  And I’m not against any authors (including the TOP selling ones).

As @TheRubikThemes has already mentioned, the whole campaign was not well-prepared.

Ok, but why did you bring this up then…

I’m going to bring this thread back on topic. I understand you have concerns and would like to debate, but this is not the thread to do it in.

Thanks!

Hey KingDog,

I assume this was off topic due to the topic title so all posts removed.

However these posts get to the heart of the issues going on in the marketplace, many of which most people won’t talk about and many top authors have simply given up on.

What area can this be talked about without it being removed?

Hey @ThemeFusion,

Stepping in for @kingdog on this one.

I’m actually incredibly “pro” discussions of major issues like ADP. Particularly from and between folks like @Dream-Theme and yourself who I think have a unique perspective to share and a heck of a lot of insight to offer the broader community.

If the two of you want to go and start another thread about it in a different area, I’m totally cool with that. With two caveats:

1. Keep the discussion respectful.
Disagreements are fine, in fact, they’re encouraged. However there’s a big difference between idealogical debates and personal attacks. We’ve removed a lot of posts in this thread because they cross that line. Keep the discussion about ideas and we won’t need to intervene.

2. Just be mindful of the rules around price fixing.
Quoting our legal-eagles here: it’s strictly prohibited to have an agreement, arrangement or understanding between competing businesses (such as two authors) about what price point to sell at. We’ve gotta do this from a legal perspective (our hands are tied). If the conversation moves into this territory, we’ve gotta remove it. Nothing has crossed the line yet, but just be mindful of this as you keep the discussion going.

Navigate between these lines and we won’t have a problem. Heck, we’ll even participate in the discussion if we think it’s called for or if you want us to.

I’ve got an idea, can you add a button “view ALL hidden content”?

Hey @matthewcoxy & @KingDog

This topic is just incredibly heated and gets frustrating to discuss because it’s been discussed over and over when it was first released and nothing happened.

I’ve created a new topic here: What Should ADP Look Like?

Cheers
