I am planning to use the comments search API. This is already a step up from the earlier ATOM feed-based approach to get Item comments. 
But I have the following two issues with this API:

There does not seem to be a way to distinguish “unread” comments from “read” comments. Please add support for this in the future API release.

The comments API requires Item ID. But there is no straightforward and programmatic way to “select all of my Item IDs for me” in the available API. Please support this feature or alternatively allow the comments search API to return all comments (by making the Item ID field optional).
