When I select music from Envato, I always check the box “Excludes Content ID” so I don’t have to bother with disputing copyright requests.
However, at least 50% of the time, I still get a dispute, despite only selecting music that is listed as “Excludes Content ID”.
WHY DOES ENVATO LIST “EXCLUDES CONTENT ID” AS AN OPTION? IT’S COMPLETE FICTION.
ContentID is the industry standard. Authors who do not register are inexperienced at best or shady in the worst cases.
Legitimate authors who do not register usually end up registering down the line, once they understand the necessity of it.
Often times, music that is advertised as non-registered is targeted by fraudsters who consider these unprotected assets as up for grabs and register them in their name.
In any case, going with unregistered music is always a bad choice.
I do agree with you though, that filter option is pointless and creates the false pretense that “unregistered music” is something to search for. When actually, unregistered music should be deemed unprofessional and shouldn’t be allowed on Envato at all.
Getting a copyright notice for using copyrighted material is the normal process on Youtube. You get a license on Envato precisely to lift such claims.
