Claim Clear - new ContentID feature coming to Envato Elements

Thanks! Totally understandable.

That said, I’d really appreciate it if you could shed some light (once you have the info, of course) on the situation regarding streamers who publish monetized videos featuring in-game music sourced from Envato Elements without holding the appropriate licenses.

“Sorry, we won’t be sharing that information with the authors.” would be a totally valid, though dissapointing, answer. Better than silence, anyway.

Can all Caim Clear music track use on Facebook?

I’ll get back to the discussion when you add me to Elements…

This is copy-pasted from the FAQ of the Claim Clear tool:

Does Claim Clear work on other social platforms?

No. Currently, Claim Clear only works with YouTube’s Content ID system.

If you are having any issues with copyright claims for videos using Envato music on other platforms such as Facebook, please contact our support team.

So you may want to get in touch with support to clarify that.

Best of luck!

I’m also experiencing this issue. I’m using licensed Envato music, but still getting copyright claims on platforms other than YouTube. Since Claim Clear doesn’t support other platforms, it’s been difficult to resolve. I’ll be reaching out to Envato support as suggested, but it would be great if they offered a more universal solution.

@audiomania I don’t have Elements either

Hi all. The first phase for Claim Clear is now available on site, and covers just over 60% of all music tracks on Envato Elements.

The tool currently allows customers to clear existing Content ID claims against their YouTube videos, by adding a URL to each video on the Claim Clear page of their account. We have a customer Help Centre article covering this process here.

Note that Claim Clear simply allows users to clear existing ContentID claims on any tracks that are “Claim Clear Ready” when they register a specific YouTube video using this tool. It doesn’t mean that any music registered with these ContentID administrators that gets used in any YouTube video will be automatically cleared.

The launch email to authors mentioned an upcoming channel clearance tool that is not currently available. I’ll address a few questions relating to this in the first batch of Q&A below - that feature is currently expected to release during July.

Which tracks are covered by Claim Clear?
The Claim Clear feature applies to all tracks registered with a participating ContentID administrator. Currently that applies to Identifyy/HAAWK (Author content) and Orfium (PremiumBeat content only), but we are open to integrating with more services in future.

This initial list allows us to launch the feature with the ContentID administrators who cover the largest number of tracks on Elements. We’re open to working with additional ContentID administrators, if they have the technical capacity to support Claim Clear via an API that we can integrate with.

Will Envato force Authors to switch to Identifyy?
No. You are free to use any ContentID administrator that you like, but currently only Identifyy and Orfium registered music will be clearable through Claim Clear.

Will artist name / author name mismatches in Identifyy cause problems?
No, any artist name/username mismatch shouldn’t cause a problem with Claim Clear.

Do I need to update my items to show a specific name or format for Identifyy/HAAWK?
We currently show “Claim Clear Ready” status on all tracks that have the ContentID administrator listed as either “HAAWK” or “Identifyy” so either name is fine.

Does this change anything for multiple uses of a track?
From a licensing perspective, nothing has changed. Claim Clear has no impact on our license terms, and customers still must license items each time they use them.

Is there an issue with leaving some items unregistered?
No, there shouldn’t be any issue leaving some items unregistered. The choice of ContentID administrator remains on a per-item basis, so you can continue to leave some items unregistered if needed. However, our Author Support team will not be able to use their bulk editing tool to update the ContentID status of only some items in a portfolio, as this is designed to assist authors who need to update entire portfolios. If you have a mix of different ContentID status (for example some unregistered, some registered with various different administrators) you would need to continue updating your items individually.

Should Authors registered with other ContentID administrators switch to supported services, or wait to see if their services are included in Claim Clear?
If you wish to immediately be included in the new Claim Clear feature, we recommend registering tracks with Identifyy/HAAWK. We are open to supporting additional services in future, and will notify authors when any new ContentID partnerships are confirmed - however, no other services are currently confirmed for this tool.

What restrictions will the upcoming channel clearance tool have?
When the channel clearance tool launches, customers will have a limited number of channels that they can whitelist for their account. Their channel whitelist is only active while that customer has an active subscription, and this won’t impact any existing claims on videos from that channel: it will only apply to new videos uploaded while the channel clearance is active.

If a customer cancels their subscription, their channel clearance will immediately end, and ContentID claims on any new videos added to their channel will no longer be cleared automatically.

We’ll have more details on the channel tool closer to release, including updated customer Help Centre articles about using it.

@WormwoodMusic For your game audio question, from a licensing perspective, nothing has changed with the introduction of Claim Clear. If a game developer has a license and is an active Elements subscriber, they can automatically clear claims on their own videos using the new tool. These licenses would only cover videos created by that game developer.

Any content creators streaming gameplay with audible music may still receive Content ID claims, and would need their own license for the relevant tracks to clear any music used in their videos.

Hi. Thank you for your answers.
Unfortunately, I did not find an answer to the main question.
How will the new Claim Clear system control the use of new licenses for each new project? Currently, the client must provide a license and my content ID service controls this. How will the new system motivate the client to download a new license each time?

What are other AdRev users planning on doing? Are you planning on switching to Identifyy? Are you registering new tracks with Identifyy? Has anyone figured out if we can switch to Identifyy with AdRevs contracts?

No chance! To me, being with AdRev (where I can release claims myself in a second) is worth much more than this. And the awful Identifyy reputation doesn’t make it any more likely.

Also, we earn 80% instead of 70%, which is 14% more money for the same views (thousands of dollars more per year for me).

I had to leave MArray for the same reason, but it was worth it. At least here we can stay, which I’m thankful for!

The real money comes from viral videos on social media platforms - not from licensing anymore. And it will only keep getting worse (for licensing that is). Still plenty of royalties to be collected.

If I was a library owner, or a music downloader, I would of course want this Claim Clear feature.

But it may lead to lower income for many authors, unless Envato somehow manage to take back 90% of the market share they lost over the years to the competition (not likely).

I agree. There haven’t been any Identifyy reports since the Claim Clear implementation, so we’ll have to wait a few months to see if there’s a significant impact. That said, in my experience, CID reports, especially when tracks are used in viral or massively streamed videos, are FAR more profitable than single licensing and Elements combined.

Due to contract terms, I ended up on the Claim Clear side of the fence, but I’m also concerned it might result in a heavy fall of my CID earnings… we’ll see.

Just wanted to share a quick update I received from AdRev regarding the upcoming Claim Clear feature on Envato Elements. They confirmed that they are currently in integration discussions with Envato to ensure full compatibility. The goal is to keep the catalog up to date and make sure claims are cleared effectively.

Once the integration is complete, claim clearances will be automated—which should make things a lot smoother for all of us.

If you’re using AdRev and had concerns, this should be reassuring. AdRev also mentioned they’re happy to assist with any questions in the meantime.

Hope this helps!

Good to know that AdRev is considering this move as I would never contemplate Identifyy as my Content ID administrator.

Hi all. We are in discussion with a few more Content ID administrators, but there are currently no confirmed plans to integrate new providers with the Claim Clear tool. If that changes, we’ll let you know as soon as we have more information to share.

Thanks for clarifying Ben, much appreciated.

Thanks for the clarifications. These things take time, but every step forward counts. We can’t deny that some aspects need to be legally integrated to ensure everything is clear and fair for all parties involved. That said, progress is happening, and maybe a new way of doing things is on the horizon. Let’s welcome change and innovation, even if it’s not perfect right from the start.
