Claim Clear - new ContentID feature coming to Envato Elements

Hi all! We’re about to release the first part of a new tool called Claim Clear on Envato Elements. This thread has an overview of what that does, and why it’s important.

What is Claim Clear?
Claim Clear is an integration between Elements and ContentID administration services. In this first stage, we’ve teamed up with HAAWK to streamline claim clearance for Envato-licensed music. Customers will be able to add their YouTube videos to the Claim Clear tool, and HAAWK will then automatically verify that the customer has an active subscription to license the music used in their video.

Why have we chosen the current ContentID service providers?
At launch, the new feature supports music registered with Identify (HAAWK), as it’s by far the most widely used ContentID administrator for music sold through Envato. This integration allows us to cover over 60% of music at launch. When the feature launches, tracks that are covered will show a “Claim Clear Ready” badge to show customers that they support this feature.

We’re open to adding support for more services in future, from ContentID administrators who have the technical systems to support our current and upcoming Claim Clear features via an API. In time, we’d love to have every track covered by this tool.

Why is this so important?
If you’re reading posts in the Audio Authors forum, you already know how vital Content ID registration is to many authors, tracking authorised and unauthorised use of your music across YouTube. However, managing ContentID claims is also the single biggest source of complaints from prospective and current customers: they find it confusing and disruptive, and will cancel subscriptions or actively seek alternatives to avoid having to go through that process.

Automated clearance tools mean that customers can use your tracks quickly and easily in their videos, helping us to attract and retain more music-using subscribers. Customer growth directly generates Author earnings, so everyone wins when we can remove a significant pain point for those users.

I can see that there are already a few threads about Claim Clear, so I’m going to move them in here to keep everything in one place. We’ll cover incoming questions over the coming days. In the meantime, you can find lots more information about Claim Clear in this post on the Author Hub - including advice on registering or moving to Identifyy, and an upcoming tool that will handle bulk updates for those of you with large portfolios:

Hey guys, just got an email from envato team concerning Claim Clear.

It’s important to ensure your Content ID details are accurate and up-to-date for all of your music items on Envato. To help make this easier, here is a quick summary:

Username: AllenGrey
You have 355 music items Music Items
354 items as HAAWK (Identifyy)
1 items as NOT REGISTERED

Is there an easy and quick way to find out what track is not registered, I’ve been scrolling through my tracks and can’t seem to find the “1 item as NOT REGISTERED”

Thanks

Hi Allen! From the email, just below the list of tracks and registration details:

Need a full list of your items and their current Content ID status? Contact Author Support to request a breakdown of your tracks.

If you open a ticket, the Support team should be able to help you track down the missing track

New feature will roll out shortly from Envato, Claim Clear. In the article, there are no explanations of how it works. Because if it’s not based on a license, how will YouTube know if it’s stolen or not?
Can someone elaborate?

@BenLeong ?

To me, it sounds like: If your music is in Envato, and registered through Identifyy - no claim at all, even if your music has been pirated.

Do authors have the ability to not participate?

I would also add - how will multiple uses of one license be tracked?

Exactly, this is the first concern that I expressed in the neighboring topic.

Plus, authors who are part of our Claim Clear library (HAWK Identifyy), will get better marketplace visibility. We’re talking:

  • On-site badging to show customers that your tracks are Claim Clear-enabled (Claim Clear ready)

:open_hands: It sounds like authors who use other CID providers (like me) are considered lower class.

“good content helps build relationships and trust”… although, I can’t help but wonder if this is “the best way to craft a narrative and deliver a story”.

That is so antagonizing… and yet so Envato like.

“So you chose a different service provider than the one with secretly worked with? Bad author! You should have known better, let’s punish you for this. [Evil Laugh]”

Hi all. I’m running a bit behind tonight, as I had intended to get this forum post published before the email went out. I’ve moved the above posts across to this thread, and will raise these questions with the project team tomorrow morning.

In the meantime, there’s some more information at the top of this new thread on why the first release has focused on Identifyy/HAAWK, and some future plans. Identifyy covers the biggest chunk of the library, by a significant margin - I think it currently represents 5-6 times as many tracks as any other administrator. We’d love to eventually have every track covered by this tool, and we’re looking into ways to expand the range of ContentID providers that it covers.

Hy @BenLeong ! Thanks for the updates, got the mail and have 3 questions:

  1. How does this feature cope with multiple uses of the same license?
  2. Channel clearing is a NO in my opinion, who monitors the channel in the future, what stops the channel to use a single license for future projects? This would be a loss for authors and for Envato too.
  3. The mail (article) states: * If you selected Yes, you must also set the YouTube Content ID Administered By attribute to HAAWK (or your current provider).
In that field on all of my tracks I’ve written Identifyy, should I change that to HAAWK?
    Thanks!

Hi @BenLeong ,

I have two other questions:

  1. In my Identifyy account, for various reasons, some tracks appear under the artist name ILOVEMEDIA, while others show my personal name… In no case does it exactly match my AudioJungle username (ilovemedia-es). Could this be a problem?

  2. Is there any issue with leaving some items unregistered? (Some of my items are public domain pieces performed on piano, and to avoid potential problems in case there are overly similar versions, I decided not to upload them to Identifyy).

Thanks!

@BenLeong

  1. Can the author opt out of this feature?
  2. How exactly does the process of releasing the claim works?
  3. Does it affect previous sales?

Hi, anyone have any thoughts on whether people should try and switch from AdRev or others to Identifyy? Would it be better to wait to see if AdRev gets included in Claim Clear?

Hi. Great idea to simplify the process of clearing of claims, but in a very twisted way. Why only Identify? And why others who prefer to work with other Content ID administrator forced to switch to Identify? This is not fair, because it looks like monopoly now. Very very disappointed.

It won’t only just be HAAWK. As mentioned, because it’s the biggest content ID administrator currently among authors, it made the most sense to begin there. There are also other limitations with other ID administrator’s API’s which currently make it not possible to work with our system. But hopefully that’s something that they’ll be able to change in the future so we can continue to add more.

So, since I am registered with Adrev, should I just wait with the idea that it will be included in Claim Clear?

If you want to take advantage of the tool right now and if it’s not a big process to make the switch, that will be up to you
