Bulk adding tags to photos

Hello,
I’ve already contact help about this, but I think they misunderstood…I’ve come from Twenty20 originally and had been uploading photos through Envato Elements since Twenty20 closed up shop. I used to be able to make a list of keywords (up to 50) in a word doc or note, copy it and then paste the whole list (comma separated) at once into the tags field, to attach all the individual words to that photo. I cannot figure out how to do this in the new portfolio system. If I have to add tags one at a time, it will take me forever. Does anyone know of a shortcut or an easy way to bulk add tags to a photo, before uploading it for approval?
Thank you in advance,
Audrey

Hi Audrey! I do it all the time via the Elements uploader so I wonder if you are submitting them differently somehow. This is what my uploader looks like.

I get to it by going to my Elements dashboard and clicking on the Upload pull down menu and then choosing Photos. Once I have the screen shown above, I just paste my list into the Tags field.
Does that help any?
~Marg

Hi Marg,
Thank you so much for your reply! My uploading screen used to be exactly like yours and I was able to bulk add into the Tags box, but now my login looks like the photos attached and my edit photo screen is very different. When you click on Author Tags you can enter words one at a time, but a drop down menu also appears trying to find your word in a list. When I tried to post multiple separated by commas it didn’t work at all.

Just wondering if anyone else has found a solution for this in the new dashboard setup.

Thanks so much,
Audrey

Hmm, not sure since I’ve never seen a screen like that. If you use this link, do you still see that? (remove the spaces to get the true link)

@KingDog @BenLeong any idea why she has a different uploader than I do?

I know there was the new photo upload system for Elements but I thought that all the photo submitters were on it now. Maybe I’m mistaken. I’ll need to research

I really really hope they haven’t done away with the copy and paste a list option for keywords. :flushed::flushed::flushed:

As a fellow photographer I always hope for keyword tagging to get easier

Truth! I have stopped selling on sites before that make me add keywords individually. :joy:

Hi @aduguid - welcome to the Envato forums!

It looks like your account is in one of the first batches of people added to our new content system, which is currently being set up to handle all Photo item review and management.

I’ve contacted the team managing it, to find out how to apply bulk tagging in that system - it’s new enough that I don’t have access to try it out myself. Once I have more information, I’ll let you know what they have to say.

Did you ever hear back about if we will still be able to paste a list of keywords in the new photo uploaded?

Hi Marg! Sorry for the delay - I caught up with the team working on this just before Christmas, but forgot to post here.

In short: not with the current version of the new uploader, but manually pasting in tags is on their list of additional features to work on.

However, the new tool is designed to automatically import any tags that are present in the photo metadata, without needing to type or paste these in. Many authors are already submitting photos with tags in their metadata, so this removes the need to manually add these in during the photo uploading process.

Well that’s too bad. My photos don’t contain metadata keywords. I have to copy and paste. :frowning:

Mine don’t either so hopefully it’s something that gets added

There are utility programs that you can use to edit keywords for batches of files, or you should be able to add them directly in any program that you use to prepare the finished photos - for example, if you use Photoshop (or any Creative Cloud product) you can go to File > File Info and enter as many tags as you need.

I use Paint Shop Pro. I think I might be able to add keywords but I’ve never tried. I usually submit a photo to all the websites I sell through at one time and get most of the keywords from those sites that suggest them instead of thinking them up myself.:rofl::rofl:

uploading to envato is the worst experience of all microstock websites i am a contributor too. the whole process is clunky and feels like it was coded by a first semester. sorry to say but it really annoys me to upload to envato because how the keywording, captioning and stuff works. why can´t i just put keywords into the files. why do i have this stupid list where i need to scroll for 30 seconds before i find the keyword i want to use?
i want to add “infant” and have to scroll through dozend of “infantry” “infantry military” tags before i can select “infant”… wtf.
often dozend of misspelled words are in that list before you find the correct one.

keywording on envato takes 10 times longer than on any other platform.
who thought that would be a good idea? in lightroom i keyword in german, because that is my language. so for microstock i need to keyword again. normaly that is no big issue… but with envato it is a very bad experience.

@BenLeong @KingDog I am hearing a lot of complaints about adding keywords in the new uploader. I’ve had several photographers tell me they will stop uploading to Envato unless it is fixed. I hope you will continue to pass along the negative feedback for us. Thanks!

Yeah that sounds pretty annoying  Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the feedback @Lightboxx - we’ll pass this on to the team.

@MargJohnsonVA. Where are the other photographers posting about this? If there’s another public photo uploader discussion that I can link our team to, please let me know.

Several of the Twenty20 photographers are part of a Slack group we started when we were trying to figure out everything on Envato. I’ve told them to submit feedback tickets so the team knows.
