Pretty sure you get the same whether you support it or not, but I’m not down with the Themeforest crew. But although you don’t have to support the item… you’re still missing out on potential residual support income whether they need it or not… and a lot of people will be put off by an item that doesn’t have any support.
Yes, that’s a very good point. I would also never buy an item if it’s marked as unsupported by author.
