ASmallOrange VPS down for 3 days. Any recommendations?

Another ASO fu&%d guy here. I´m looking as well for some other company, specially trying to find some provider with HTTP/2 support and PHP7 or near to implement it as well. In my research I have found one that seems pretty good. What do you guys think about A2 Hosting? - https://www.a2hosting.com/

They provide HTTP/2 and they are planning to add PHP7 support soon. Plans are pretty interesting and configurable.

My ASO server was down for 11 days before it came up for a few hours, I was able to make backups and after researching, I had it down to WPEngine and Siteground, and ended up opting for Siteground. So far really impressed with them. They also have PHP7 and HHVM for production, which is pretty sweet. Good luck with it!

Hey Cubell! Mind telling me which package are you on Siteground? I’m currently looking into them. Thanks!

I’m looking at the siteground business package ( https://www.siteground.com/cloud-hosting.htm ) I’m finding I’m not really using the features of a dedicated AWS instance as much as I thought I would.

Sure - I went for custom Cloud 2 cores + 3GB ram, which I think is enough at the moment. You can easily upgrade the parts if needed in the future too

I switched to SiteGround Cloud server 3 Cores and 3 GB RAM 2 days ago. I had considerable traffic today, yet my CPU usage was under 1 Core, and memory was about 1 GB. All websites are on PHP7 and main one (biggest traffic) has SSL and HTTP/2. I am very impressed by the speed of SiteGround so far (it is 2 days only, but they are considerably faster than previous ASmallOrange 4 Cores 4GB RAM server).

Well. I’m done with ASO

For no apparent reason around 30 mins ago my entire demo directory/sub domain has vanished from my server :frowning:

About to register a new TLD for my demos and sign up to siteground

Gutted :frowning:

I believe the appropriate emoji here is :weary:

Thank you all for the suggestions.

VPS at A Small Orange down for six days, multiple support tickets, chat down, no answers. This morning I gave up and signed up for siteground. So far so good, easy to deal with on chat. Free migration. Hoping, Hoping that no data was lost at ASO.

Signed up for the GoGeek plan at siteground, not sure I really needed the VPS at ASO. The shared plans don’t have WHM, only available on cloud and dedicated. Will post an update in a few days after the migration.

You mentioned you want a managed solution, so SiteGround is definitely a safe bet (those guys are great). DigitalOcean is also awesome (I have three servers there) but they are only good if you like managing your own servers.

However, if you need them for php hosting (which I assume you do), you could use this in combination with DO: https://serverpilot.io/

We moved to SiteGround shared WordPress hosting GoGeek plan (https://www.siteground.com/wordpress-hosting.htm) from asmallorange VPS (had two cores and 3gb ram there). Have not tested how it handles traffic yet, but everything seems very fast and solid while developing, support is simply amazing.

Was talking with them about the difference between GoGeek shared and VPS speeds and they told me that their shared GoGeek plan is about equal to their entry level VPS’es. Since shared GoGeek plan is much cheaper, they have great servers, plenty of resources available and really nice features for WordPress, it was no brainer. Very happy so far!

I personally don’t need all these VPS management features, so we went for fully managed solution in order to focus on work instead of spending time on all this server stuff.

What do you think about https://mediatemple.net

I have been using https://www.stablehost.com for many years now, and have never had a problem.
Great service, and great support.

:slightly_smiling:

mediatemple was not good for me in the past. I tried their shared plan but every 2 days I need to restart my mail services and Sql server again and again. Yes they provide your Sql container start/restart in shared hosting accounts. So I wouldn’t recommend them.

OMG I cancelled my A Small Orange account 2+ weeks ago with confirmation e-mail mentioning account would be terminated within 24 hours.

Today I received a new invoice for the next billing month + a 10$ extra charge for late payment fee…

Still no words of apology for the + days of downtime during december…

I want them to go away!

I opened ticket to close my account a week ago, and I opened few more tickets trying to get their attention, and finally someone responded and told me that I will wait up to 2 weeks for someone from management to respond about account closing.

My account expires on Feb 15 2015, hopefully they will close it by then. They promised me refund for the whole month, but considering how it goes, I don’t think I will get anything in the end. I just want my account closed and the nightmare over.

Unbelievably bad service.

yep. this is appalling.

I am gutted. I can’t believe they haven’t even said “sorry” for the ridiculous outage over Christmas.

Since 2 years I am using adult hosting services and I never faced any issue so far. Really one of the reliable hosting providers in the present IT market. As I observed that the adult hosting services are providing best services so I am going with it and happy with the adult hosting services providers. Providing best services at a reasonable price.
