Hey guys, How hard is it to add more place holders in a video display project, most of them just come with 5-10 Placeholders.
I have used after effects for a few years. What is involved in adding more placeholders
Is it very hard?
Thanks!

it depends how the project is done. Best is to contact the maker of item
for example the one I linked in the video, is that hard to duplicate placeholder generally speaking?
The maker is MIA
I would say for this project it will be easy adding more placeholders as it seems there is no pre-renders - you will have to duplicate few stuff and make your own cam moves,
Why not use Video editing software? (render into pieces then join videos in single new file) If you are good video editor you can make it looks awesome
It really depends on how the project was setup, if it was made modular then it is a simple task of duplicating a certain layer to make more placeholders while replacing the content. It’s all a matter of how the project is setup.
^Exactly.
If project is well organized, with true comp duplicator adding more placeholders will be peace of cake
Contact the author, if he doesn’t reply you can contact me. For a small fee you don’t have to brainstorm.

I think you should contact the author of the project directly, he/she will definitely help you for this matter, if he/she doesn’t help you then ask from other authors in here otherwise when you post something like this on the forum, it might be not good for the author ‘NGUEditing’ sales I guess.

Basically, you need to locate all the pre-comps inside one placeholder: the original comps that together build the placeholder - and duplicate them.
If some of those pre-comps have more compositions inside them, duplicate them as well.
Then, duplicate the placeholder itself and open the new one.
Now you need to switch between the pre-comps that inside the placeholder- from the original ones to the duplicated ones you made before.
Click on the original pre-comp inside the placeholder, hold Alt key, and drag (with left mouse button) the new pre-comp from the project bin ON the old one. They should switch.
Do the same for the rest of the pre-comps in the placeholder with the same method.
Then update the new pre-comps with your desired content…it should work.
Hope my explanation is clear…good luck!
p.s
For everybody else: how easier would duplicating stuff like this would be if After Effects had a node-based system…?? ADOBE comeon!
whenever you copy/paste you must change names, if you copy something, add your new video, on this new Composition, this new video will be same like in Composition that you copy/paste…

The best and easiest way will be to import template .aep file inside itself…
Then move all placeholders(from imported .aep folder) inside original main composition
True comp duplicator could be free if you want it to be (boo!). It is the quickest, easiest and “safest” way to duplicate complex compositions. It was created to do exactly that. This one is a no-brainer.

I agree with you i’ve had the same problem, but in the end i had to do it in pieces and join then them together with FCP.
It’s depend about the project so some times you need to about to 10 placeholder and sometimes you need less.
