Sort by recently updated would be a good option, that way good scripts that get updates are able to be found besides from high sales. I know authors could upload meaningless updates so maybe some type of criteria would need to be met before the product was eligible to be sorted by that, but I know there are a lot of items I would buy but am waiting for an update on it etc and then I end up forgetting about them.
Unfortunately you already pointed out why this isn’t an option - people would exploit it.
It would be near on impossible to automate a fair review policy to prevent this and even then people would quickly find a way around it
